The Academic Advisor's job is to assist students with their studies on the JPP.
All academic members of staff who teach at the JPP can get the Academic Advisor role and in exceptional cases any teaching member of staff or associate. At the beginning of each academic year, the Study Programme Committee either equally distributes, alphabetically, the first-year students to the lecturers, who will have the role of Academic Advisors, or assigns the role to specific lecturers.
In the event of the Academic Advisor's absence on sabbatical or other leave, the all files and the advisory duties are temporarily transfered to whom appointed as replacement after a random temporary assignment.
In exceptional cases, students can request to change their Academic Advisor, explaining the reasons to the Director of the Programme. The request is examined on a case-by-case basis and according to its documentation can be granted or rejected. The same applies to the Academic Advisors.
The duties of the Academic Advisor includes informing the students about the curriculum, the use of the infrastructures, the methods of evaluating the performance of the courses, etc., in general, on matters that help them to understand and complete their modules successfully. Also, they facilitate the communication between students and teachers, as well as mediate when an issue arise, especially when the former prevents the completion of their studies. In addition, the Academic Advisor can call the student to a meeting in case there are issues in the course of their studies or in the behavior of the student.
The Academic Advisors advise and suggest, without their hints and suggestions being mandatory or binding.
On the induction day event the newcomers are informed of the Academic Advisor role and the support it can provide. After that, no other pre-arranged meeting with the Academic Advisors is held. All meetings are arranged (in person or remotely) when needed.
The content of the discussions is confidential and the student's personal data is protected by the Academic Advisor.
The Programme Administrator provides the list of students' email addresses and details to the assigned Academic Advisors respectively.
Any student question over an advisory meeting that is not confidential and the response is beneficial to the entire cohort, is announced to everyone and always with protection of personal data.
In general, the legislation on the protection of students' personal data and the obligation to observe confidentiality applies.
